This house was the home of John Coover. No one is sure when this house was built. In 1807, Christian Keesey bought 12 acres from Leonard Fisher. In 1809, he sold to Krout and Black who laid it out in quarter acre lots each having 45 feet on Main Street. Jacob Krout, married to Mary Coover, built on this corner lot. This cabin was rebuilt from somehing existing. In 1810, Krout sold to George Snyder who was a capenter and replaced Krout’s house with a larger one. In 1814, Snyder sold to John Rupley and David Sharbone for $1000. Six months later, they sold to John Coover and this became his homestead.
In 2015, I was asked to do a presentation on the Coover House by the current owners, who were in the process of selling the home. My sister, Nancy and her husband Joe came up for the event. A small group of locals attended. The presentation follows as do my notes in preparation.
